Mark many thanks, well noted and will follow your advice. PS I found the following books have decent survivor narrative excerpts:

"Survivors - British Merchant Seamen in the Second World War," GH and R Bennet, Hambledon Continuum, NY/London, 1999 (very good for "PUTNEY HILL" OK for "ATHELQUEEN", so-so for "ANGLO SAXON" ("Brave Sailors All" by Revell Carr is better for the ANGLO SAXON narrative).

"Lifeboat - A History of Courage, Craveness, and Survival at Sea," John R. Stilgoe, Univ. Virginia Press, Charlottesville & London, 2003

"Lejdtrafik och Kvarstad" (roughly "neutral or "safe passage" merchant traffic"), Lennart Lundbert, Marinlitteraturforeningen nr. 85, Karlskrona Sweden 1999 (series editor Cay Holmberg - I think) ISBN 91 852 44-24-6 (in Swedish)
