<HTML>Having recently gotten into the world of DVD\'s, the first one I bought was \"Das Boot\".
Some or maybe all of you know that on this DVD, not only is there the movie in stunning video and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround (great for the \"Wasserbomb\" scenes!)....
BUT....
You can also select a version of the movie which has a complete running commentary by Kplt Jurgen Prochnow along with the Director (Peterson??) and another whom I didn\'t know. They talk as the movie progresses and tell about each scene and reminisce about how it was made or what type problems were encountered. They talk about the size of the boat models (11 meter model for most ocean scenes with a man inside actually steering it and these scenes were located in North Germany just off the coast).
During these commentaries, you really don\'t hear much of the actual movie dialogue. It is absolutely fascinating because Prochnow talks about having the real commander of U-96 there on scene for a few words of wisdom during shooting along with Bucheim.
As I mentioned a while back in another post, they talk about when Das Boot was first thought of, Robert Redford was to be the Kplt and it was to be with all American actors.....boy are we lucky that didn\'t happen. It would have been just another usual Sub movie.
Anyway, just for your enjoyment, I would HIGHLY recommend getting this DVD and watching it in the commentary mode.
