Attention on deck!
I have just put up a set of pages (ugly and perhaps incomplete but they should explain the story though introducing the new Members Area about to be open here on uboat.net. The pages are to be found here.
The section, planned and developed all this year out of our own admin pages, will be subscription based (using login and passwords). This will not affect the rest of the site in any way - those new sections are supplementary and will also help the rest of the site (the Events on this day page will benefit for one).
I realize there will probably not be that many who wish to subscribe to this service but we felt we would have to do something special for those who might wish to do so. This section is really impressive, make no mistake about it
I\'ve already had some 20 letters about this in the last 2 days, some insist on subscribing right away while others think this is way too much. I don\'t know, if we have a lower charge then we have to have that many members to join.
Perhaps a nice thread here about this would be interesting. What do you think about this? Am I forgetting something?
We\'ve rejected advertising in the past to try to keep the site as clean as possible and we felt the members area would be the best solution. Amazon commissions through book sales from this site help but they now cover less than half of my cost.
