<HTML>I don\'t know about the commander, but from a book I have I do know that U-118 was sunk by the U.S.S. Bogue and destroyed by depth charges and cannon fire from escort aircraft in 1943. Look at U-118\'s page at the boats link on the main page, it would probably tell you more than what I can tell you.
