\"In this attack U-470 was blown clear of the water before sinking vertically leaving 15-20 men in the water. The destroyer Duncan was ordered to rescue survivors\'but her commanding officer\'CDR Peter Gretton RN elected not to stop since a number of U-Boats had been reported in the area and he did not want to risk his ship.Instead he steamed by the survivors with grappling nets rigged\'but only 2 men were able to grab hold and be pulled to safety\"
What a bastard!!!
Just like the Dorsetshire and the Bismark crew.
Any other examples of a U-boat crew that could have been saved for definite if an effort was made\'but were abandoned to a slow lingering death.Of course i know many allied planes would drop life rafts etc\'but i am talking physical rescue by ship which though possible was not done.
Thanx Dave </HTML>
