<HTML>No, I don\'t know if the U-869 had any acoustical torpedoes on it.
But remember that various precautions were taken against an acoustical torpedo coming back, such as firing submerged etc (the torpedo did not go below a shallow depth as it was an anti-surface ship torpedo). To explain why U-869\'s loss is due to an acoustical torpedo, one would have to explain why these precautions failed. I don\'t recall if any other U-boats were victims of \'self kills\' from acoustic torpedoes.
My point is that \'normal\' straight running torpedoes often went into circular runs for a variety of reasons. A number of U-boats, and a number of US subs, were sunk by \'circular runs\' of their own torpedoes. It is a very plausible theory for U-869\'s loss. Though it remains just a theory.
