<HTML>Ciao Sergio!
just to play a bit patriotic we might remember to the most devoted Movie Forum Addicts that there are at least some Italian submarine movies quite well made, anything considered:
-“Alfa Tau!” (1942) where also an U-boot is depicted, exchanging supplies and medical help with the Italian sub (which theoretically could be the “Toti” because it is the one that sunk a British one, the “Rainbow”, in a surface gun duel);
-“Uomini sul fondo” (=Men in the deep, 1941), loosely based on the pre war “Dandolo” and “F14” no survivors accidental sinkings, but in the movie only one sailor dies;
-“Lupi nell’abisso” (=Wolves in the abyss), extremely tragic and dramatic, openly dedicated to all those on eternal patrol;
-“La grande speranza” (=The great hope, 1954) quite closely based on the character of Commander Todaro and submarine “Tazzoli” war patrols;
-“Siluri Umani (=Human torpedoes 1954) loosely based on a the Alexandria and Gibraltar actions.
I think I missed some and I am afraid they were not all dubbed in English.
Saluti
Walter M.
