<HTML>Okay, real quick, here is what the Encore version had:

Dubbed into English and it also replaced that annoying voice of the second officer with the original one.

Features Lt. Werner giving narration from time to time.

Has a longer version of the bar scene in the beginning. Including the singer hitting on Werner and an expanded talk between the captain ahd Thomsen.

Adds footage between the petty officer (Ullman?) saying goodbye to his pregant French girlfriend the nighe before they leave.

Expands the scene in which U-96 leaves port.

Expands the scene of the first watch on U-96.

Missing the first depth chage incident that is shown in the Directors Cut.

Adds two aircraft attacks early in the film: one for real the other \"spotted\" but probably a seagull in the sun as the plane is not heard and fails to drop any bombs.

You get to know the crew much better in this version: The Second officer is apparently against the war based upon some of his statements. The captain has a lover and is shown reading her letters. The chief engineer\'s wife was in Cologne and the radio mentions that it was heavily bombed. The navigator is married with three children.

Thomsen is missing after being spotted by U-96. He does not respond to numerous radio messages.

The short arm inspection scene is missing.

Expands the visit to Vigo with the second officer giving the merchant officers a demonstration on being depth charged.

Longer version of plan to enter the Mediterranian.

The scene when they are stuck on the bottom is expanded a bit.

Expansion of scene where soundman talks to Captain after they escape Gibraltar.

There are numerous scenes which are expanded slightly.

Overall, this is an excellent version and I ask where it was all these years. I would like to take the scene in Directors Cut which are missing and add them to this version. That would make a great movie. Maybe now the pressure will come to release the entire movie.

By the way, it was four and half hours without commercials or intermissions! Thank God for coffee!

Enjoy!
