This is the forum for Movie and Film discussions. Again, our topic is naval warfare in WWII for the most part.

<HTML>One of my favorite movies. I\'ve read the book twice, and the movie follows it fairly closely. To include all of the book\'s detail the film would end up being a mini-series.(hmmmm). There were some character amalgamations(there had to be). General Ludwig was a combination of ss General Harmel, and ss Col. Hartzer. General Student was blended into General Bittrich, but that\'s OK.
I can\'t help thinking how tame the battle scenes were compared to today\'s. I would love to see the movie remade with the same treatment of characters and noisy, raucus, violent battle scenes. Anyone who has read the book knows that the street-to-street and house-to-house (even room-to-room) fighting was mostly hand to hand, and utterly horrific. All in all, one of my favorite movies, even though there are no submarines in it.
