<HTML>Hello Kaleut Nemo,

today there are certainly enough people who use the Eng-deutsch [Germlish" ? ;-)] verb "killen", strangely enough I've heard in the compound tenses more often than in simple forms, such as "die haben uns nicht gekillt" (using the 'German' spelling). I don't know if it's historically accurate to have a character use the word in the early 1940s.

There seem to be other words in the book "Das Boot" taken from English, though, such as "Piepel" for 'ratings', "entern" for '(to) enter with violence and take possession of' or "törnen" for '(to) turn'. Buchheim even mentions "Stiehm" for 'steam', but I've never heard that one elsewhere.

Regards, Johannes</HTML>
