Respectfully, I felt the flick was better than the reviews it's received.

In particular, most of the film was shot inside the sub, so it made it real to use a real sub. That 'Das Boat' claustrophobic feeling...

I am not aware of the plot 's disengagement from the 'true' story as it's known, so Hollywood/Nat Geographic can answer those comments.

I especially liked the mockup of the reactor. However, I wonder if a reactor that's just scrammed will be leaking water, more likely it's spouting steam at several thousand psi and several hundred degrees C. Seems to this eye that the repair crews would have died from steam burns or overpressurization long before radiation could work...
