using the deck gun(s) to finish off an already abandoned and damaged merchant ship is a different business than duelling with it. Just one single hole in the hull and the U-boat is in troubles.
One weak spot of that nice movie is the age of the character played by K Jurgens; albeit some WW1 veterans went on front line patrols during WW2, they usually rode milk cows.
Other details are the polo shirts of the sub sailors, the periscope and the interior of the U-boat itself. Why they did not use the U-505 at least for the inside shots?
