Strange. Sounds like it may be some variant of the original made for TV mini series, though that nominally runs at 5½ hrs. If you get the chance tape it. It doesn't seem to come around that often, and as far as I know is not available on DVD, but NTSC video possibly. I'm trying to chase down a lead on that.
