Cannot find much info on crew after or at raising? Wonder if there was ever a memorial or crew invited to opening of museum? as 3 died on it after being sunk. They did sink and kill a British bomber crew at the time as well so maybe not? I am also an advanced diver and it is amazing to me the ones who survived a ascent from 220 ft with no special equip., very well trained in diving considering it

I have collected 100's of u-boat books some still in print many out, some german, most english...You will find that the technical info is very spreadd out over many books and then completes a whole. Few purely original tech manuals ecist except maybe in countries work dept. archives as they studied the captured u-boats to get the technology..visiting the actual remaining u-boats & ww2 su

That's a tuff one, I have amassed alot of after market copies, mostly out of older books now out of print. If you scour the internet used book stores ther are find yet (getting harder and harder to find stuff last few years and $$$). I have never even seen originals outside of museums, good luck on your search!

Almost every navy in the world after ww2 has sold or re-purposed their obsolete submarines, many still in use today over 50 years old even. Considering there were a fair number captured intact after the war they did they not get saved, repurposed to use again as the tech was pretty good for the times or sold? To my knowledge there are only 3 intact ones worldwide, the one in Chicago I have visite

So I did some research. Thinking it would be very COOL if I was a billionaire I would commission to build my own U-boat. Since there's only two in the world that are fully intact but non-operational it's probably the only way you could ever get one. Apparently the VIIC in 1943 cost 2.3 million US DOLLARS,,, in today's money that would be $34 million. Not impossible at all really? T

Recently watched this one on Shudder, quite a few inaccuracies & as a advanced diver had to laugh at the underwater dive scenes but good to see some good Balao class sub action, the exterior shots were shot on location with pretty good underwater models..the interior is pretty accurate but bigger than the actual boats to get the film cameras in...all i n all good sub entertainment..."no

I am a master diver in cold water/dry suit and my bucket list has a u-boat dive on it, hard to say if it will ever happen as it is difficult to get the permits for them & I am getting up there and they are major technical. North Carolina might be a option as I am in Canada. Anyone care to share their experiences if having done any in the world? I would be most excited to hear the tale.

I agree, this is a u-boat site but i think we all have interest in all the ww2 subs. A separate section for all ww2 subs would be pretty nice to have. I have extensive info and pics of all ww2 subs as well as Surcouf which was a 1st in its time

Just thought I would share a rare opportunity I had to mee t a actual German U-boat sailor. His name was Wolfgang & he was a widower in a place 55+ strata near Duncan, Vancouver Island, Canada. This was in 2013 and he was 92. Still active and played tennis twice a week and sound of mind. The meeting was arranged by a mutual friend who resided there and told me of him. He agreed to speak to me
