Hello, are there any further details on the attack that resulted in the sinking of the steamer Calabria by U-103 on 8 December 1940, besides what is mentioned on the relevant page on the 'Ships hit by U-Boats' section? Maybe from the patrol report of U 103?

Thank you. I wasn't aware of the Luigina. Do you know how many Italian ships were posted missing or anyway sunk with all hands by U-Boats in WWI?

I have recently 'found' a few Italian ships that were lost with all hands and no trace during WWI: The barque San Giuseppe (952 tsn), last seen February 7, 1916 in Nice while sailing from Philadelphia (from where she had sailed in December 1915) in Savona with a cargo of coal ; The steamer Soperga (4034 GRT), which disappeared after leaving Norfolk (coming from New Orleans) on Septe

Regarding the Shuntien (http://www.uboat.net/allies/merchants/ships/1234.html), I was looking for a more detailed figure of how many prisoners were on board (it is written between 850 and 1100). Moreover, is it known how many of them were Germans and how many Italians?

The submarine HMS Rainbow was likely (accidentally) rammed and sunk by the Italian steamer Antonietta Costa on 4 October 1940. That was an accidental collision, but I came to wonder, how many submarines (of any nationality) were sunk by merchants (by ramming or other way) during the two World Wars?

On 14 July 1942 the Italian submarine "Pietro Calvi" was sunk by HMS Lulworth while attempting to approach convoy SL 115. In a British relation, I read that when the Lulworth was sent to investigate the contact, she found, before the "Calvi", a German U-Boat that quickly disappeared, and that was also seen by the "Calvi" crew, passing some 1000 yards away. Later, whi

Does anybody know precisely how many Italian POWs were on board the RMS "Empress of Canada" sunk by the "Leonardo da Vinci" on 13.3.1943 (I have always found contradicting figures), and how many of them were killed in the sinking (I have never found the number of POWs lost, only the overall number of 392)?

Hello Platon, thanks and, since we're at it: what about the loss of the "Marconi"? I have found that also for this the causes are not known, the only speculation being that she may have been victim of "friendly fire" incident from the U-67 on 28.10.1941, but on another site I found that actually the U-67 was not even at sea at that time (and indeed on Uboat.net I found

Hello everyone. On 2 June 1942 the submarine "Morosini" left the Italian base of Betasom in Bordeaux for a patrol off Puerto Rico/San Salvador, during which she sank the Dutch MV "Tysa". On 27.11.1942 "Morosini" refuelled from the Italian submarine "Finzi"; on 8.8.1942 she (due to reach Betasom around 14.15 on 10 August) sent her last message to Betasom (s
