That maps shows the sites of sunken U-Boats. I was hoping that there is a map showing all the locations of ships that were sunk off the Florida coast....ships sunk by U-Boats.... Thanks!

I've gotten a bit side-tracked from my 40 U-Boat books and have read about 15+ books about the US Fleet Subs in WW 2. "Thunder Below" was just incredible! Does anyone know if there are any Forums like this one, concerning the Fleet Subs of WW 2? Thanks in advance!

A few years ago, while fishing, I went over a big wreck in 820 feet of water near Boca Raton, Florida. It showed up perfectly on my fishfinder/sonar. When searching individual ships here, they all have a small map and the Lat/Lon of the sinking. Is there any map that shows the little symbols where I might try to find out if this might be a U-boat victim? Any suggestions would ge great! Than

I'm currently reading "Battle Beneath the Waves" by Robert Stern. It's an excellent book that covers an individual U-Boat per chapter, including a few from WW 1.

I'm married to an Aucklander and travel there often. Pick up a book entitled "U-Boat Far From Home" byDavid Stevens. It's the story of U-862 that traveled around NZ and no doubt passed very close to Christchurch.

"Iron Coffins" by Herbert Werner is an excellent account written by a man who was there...... Another outstanding account was "The Laughing Cow" by Jost Metzler. It's a 1955 copy from publisher William Kimber (London) and I found it in a used book shop in Auckland, NZ. Great book, lots of photos..... I also enjoyed Operation Drumbeat and U-Boat War in the Caribbean.

I finally got a nice scanner and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in me posting a dozen or so photos of the inside of U-505 that I took during a tour in the late 80s? I know there are other photos of her here, but I'd be glad to scan them and post them if there's any interest.......

I travel to NZ quite often and was in NZ a few years back when an article appeared in a boating mag. I brought the article home (US/Florida) and emailed a bit with John Chatterton. Chatterton, many of you will remember, was instrumental in identifying U-869 off the coast of New Jersey. This was all written about in the amazing book, "Shadow Divers" by Robert Kurson. I was lucky enough to visit the 505 in the late 80s. At that time, it was a guided tour. The tour guide that took us through the boat was an older German woman, complete with heavy accent! She was amazing with her stories because at the time, many of the original crew would come to Chicage to see their old boat. Many of the men stayed with this lady's family and needless to say, her tour was

I just read an aoutobiography about an amazing British pilot, Eric Winkle" Brown. He did a LOT of test flying off of British carriers and he flew combat off them as well during the war. Check out his book, "Wings On My Sleeve". )

Hi Robert, I looked Squadron 50 up since you mentioned it.....very interesting. As with British subs in the Atlantic, that's about the last assignment I'd ever want in that war since so many of RAF Coastal Command's and later the USN jeep carrier's aircraft were probably hair-trigged to attack ANY sub and ask questions later!

He Everyone, First post here to tell you that I'm looking forward to participating here in the future. My whole life revolved around avaition until my flying career was medically ended in 1995. I wanted to get as far away from that area as I could and I picked up a copy of "Operation Drumbeat". From then on, I was "hooked" on U-Boats! My personal library now has 40
