One little correction: a Maat is not an officer. I think he is Petty Officer Second Class.

His last rank was Maat. Maybe F.T. means that his position was in the radio room.

Hello! With that way of spelling I did not find him in the Crewlist on our website. But that does not necessarily mean that he did not sail on an uboat. Our lists are far from being complete.

Not only probably. ;-) The "(TF)" means that the source of the database record is a wireless message from a uboat.

Most of your questions are answered here: U 108 was refuelled on 7.11. in the evening but because of technical problems with the hoses most fuel went into the sea. At 22:20 this was abandoned and retried the next morning. The problems commenced and then refuelling was stoped after a radio message from BdU was received that ordered all uboats with sufficient fuel to proceed immediately to the

The first one says that tug "Sogo Pigi" arrived with a tanker in Mudros. The second one says that tug "Pigi" is out of order and by that the small tug "Luisa" is the only one available.

If nobody can help you (do you have no further hints?) then you can ask german Officials via Internet: But receiving an answer can take up to half a year.

It seems that it all has to do with data about the propellor. B&V is, as already mentioned, the name of the company who produced the propellor: Blohm & Voss in Hamburg, Germany D. 1290: maybe the diameter? Steig. 1080 could mean the propellor pitch (I used a dictionary to translate that word from german) Projiz.Fläche 0,392m2 stands for the covered area if you flatten the blad

Hi! I asked in our german forum and according to Axel Niestlé and Andreas Hoffmann U 589 is depicted, January 1942 in Danzig. Axel says that there are other photos showing U 589 with this emblem.

One example for that version: Wrecksite.eu gives this information: "On 22/06/1942 the Grimsby steam trawler BROMELIA (GY113) foundered and was lost following an explosion, probably caused by a mine. The incident was witnessed by a German U-boat. Thirteen crew lost. ref. used: Tony Lofthouse, Gilbert Mayes, David Newton, Michael Thompson, Cochrane Shipbuilders Vol I : 1884 - 1914

Hi! Yes, that translation/interpretation is wrong. In the original german war diary you can see that only the word "Atos" in mentioned.

I guess you are referring to the abbreviation "atos". This is not an acoustic torpedo. It is the abbreviation for the G7A T1 torpedo. "A" does not stand for "acoustic". For example see:

Try our website Historisches MarineArchiv. Here you can find all axis submarine successes. Filter Year 1945 and then browse through the list: All uboats with the name "KU xxx" are midget submarines. And at the bottom of this page you find a table with successes by Seehund midget submarines: (this one only in german language).

Hi! A report from one side sinking a ship/submarine from the other side does not automatically mean that it really happened. There are several reasons why there are dozens, if not hundreds of reports like this in WW2 (including the European Theater of War): misinterpreted bubbles on the surface, releasing of some oil from the sub to make the chaser think the sub is sunk or whatever. I

There were three sailors killed: - Wolfgang Neumann - Hans Endemann (II WO, from Hamburg) - Georg Büssgen (from Cologne, Engine Room) Maybe one of them had Argentinean nationality? But all names are typical german names.
