A German clock. Face about 6 inches diameter, with markings: Wings and swastika with a capital M below. A number 12515 with a capital N below The number 12326 is stamped into the back of the case. No other external marks. Can anyone provide information? Phil

Suggest that you look in www.warsailors.com The following is noted therein: ON92 Note 2 - Cristales: 5,368 GRT, Elders & Fyffes. Rear Commodores ship.Torpedoed in 52 55N 29 50W by U-124 (Johann Mohr) 12 May 1942. Sunk by gunfire from HMCS Shediac (K110) (Arnold Hague gives 5389 gt for this ship, as does Rohwer - cargo of general and china clay, all 82 survived, picked up by HMCS Shedia

I had checked through British Vessels Lost At Sea (BVLAS), and Janes etc. No sloop or anything that filled the description was evident. Perhaps something like PopskisPrivate Army or commandeered.!! Hopefully some Historian in Australian military may roll up. Best wishes Phil

Good morning to you. A possible explanation may be in the Time Zones used by the U-boat and whatever other reporting vessels were using. The report on this site states that attacks were carried out between 0454 and 0505 on 03 November 1941 It is understood that U-Boats used a Standard Time, which would be 2 hours ahead of GMT. For the Longitude in which the Gretavale was sunk the Zone Time use

According to Moller and Brack the Type UB111, numbered UB 60 to UB71, UB75 to UB79, UB88 to UB99 and UB103 to UB117 each had two six cylinder MAN S6V35/35 diesel engines totalling 1100hp. Some quoted as MAN-VULCAN Other numbers are reported to have had Korting, Daimler or Benz engines Phil

It appears that HMS Bann joined WS33 on the sailing from Freetown on 14 September 1943 arriving Durban on 14 October 1943. From the dates you mention, HMS Bann was involved in the following convoys: CM46. CM46B. BA54S. AKD8. AB23. Apparently all within the ADEN, DURBAN, BOMBAY boundary.
