Good morning If it is the U-Boat grid chart 3497 you are referring to, I would now query any right to copyright, but, I could be wrong. In Jurgen Rohwer’s book Axis Submarine Successes there is a reference to the Library of Contemporary History, Naval Archive. Perhaps you should try them. They should know. It's me again I think all the photos on the Navyphotos site are pre-war versions. However, Janes 1944-45 edition has a photo of HMS Anthony showing the extension mentioned by Dan. There appears to be a Signal-Lamp type mounted on it, which makes sense. Phil

Your observation is correct. But I do not have the real answer to it. I would suggest that being placed well aft of any structure, the shadow area in a forward direction would be minimised. No doubt one of our experienced destroyer contributors can enlighten us. Phil

Good evening Go to www.navyphotos.co.uk there you will find an excellent photo of HMS Acasta which may answer the questions. B turret is the second turret from forward. It looks as if the main searchlight is on a bandstand between the two funnels. Good hunting Phil

Good evening all Some details of the tests carried out on submarine hulls is mentioned in ”The Sea Surrenders” by Capt. In Scotland the boats were used in the following order: Stoic, Supreme, Sceptre, Stygian and Upshot. Off Gibraltar a brand new hull Achates was tested to de

A relative of an old acquaintance was a survivor of a sinking by a German submarine (U33?) around about September or October 1915. The only information I have is a letter that the said survivor wrote on 14 November 1915, to his parents in Penarth, South Wales, whilst on board the SS Fabian at Malta. He is believed to be the seaman recorded as having died on 31 January 1919, aged 18, whe

Just to be clear. My remark about U105 was in respect to a photograph of that one being a similar vessel. There were many Type IX boats, of which there were 14 Type IXB models. Phil

Good evening Selim The possible vessel I had in mind was Clan Keith. My original interest in this vessel was that the Third Mate who was lost with her had sailed with me when he was a Cadet in 1956. I do not know her exact cargo, but I understand it was miscellaneous. Clan Keith, 7129 tons, which, on Nov. 5, 1961, in a strong gale, hit the Ecueils des Sorelles Rocks, off Cap Bon, Tunisia,
