i am told that this was to test the effect of turbines as a propusion system for the u boats, with one or two turbines on one shaft, like the type xviiia boats u 792 and u 793 that were tested from their launch in 43 untill the end of the war, none of these test boats saw active sevice, although they had crews of experienced men, they were purely experimental.

it is an experimental type of schnell boot or s boat designed as a fast attack u boat by walther i think(someone on here will clarify) if you look at the tower on the photo of it on the surface it is similar to the type xx1 and later models

there were more cases of u boat commanders helping the crews of enemy ships sunk during world war 2 it was at the commanders discresion how he assisted. there are countless recounts of u boats directing survivors to the nearest coastline or even towing them on the surface. sometimes food and medical tratment was given, obviously as u boats are relatively small inside there is not a lot of room

as far as i can gather the bells were positioned in every compartment of the boat to alert every member of the crew, and to alert the commander, chief, engine room and crew. they would have been located in the deckhead, with the emergency lighting. i think in the later boats when the alarm dive order was rang down a light also flashed in the engine room spaces, because of the noise from the di
