Very rare picture inside the conning tower of U-995
! Ames is seated at the steering station. At his feet is the hatch to the Control room. The ladder on the right goes up to the bridge. The chamber is very small. The photographer is wedged against the periscope shroud that the skipper "rode" while viewing. The steering station is facing apx 45 degs to left of forward. Very awkward, with nothing to view but a couple of gauges. And easy to fall off the narrow slat of a seat, through the hatch!
