Kptlt. Ulrich Heyse after a patrol. |
Ulrich Heyse began his naval career in April 1933. Later he served for more than a year on the destroyer Theodor Riedel, including 12 patrols in the first year of the war. In July 1940 he transferred to the U-boat force. After the usual training he served on U-37 for one patrol as Kommandantenschüler (commander-in-training).
On 12 May, 1941 he commissioned U-128, a type IXC U-boat. On the boat's second patrol in February 1942, he operated successfully in North American waters following the first Paukenschlag boats. Later Heyse led U-128 on two patrols in Brazilian waters.
In March 1943 Kptlt. Heyse left U-128 and became a teacher in several ULD's (Unterseebootslehrdivision). In March 1945 he became commander of the 32nd (Training) Flotilla.
