U-boat Commands

U-boatFromTo

This man did not actually take official command of a U-boat but he had gone through all the motions (training, experience etc.) of commanding one.

Dieter Beck was a Waffenoffizier (Artillery) and served on the cruisers NÜRNBERG and PRINZ EUGEN until 1943 when he was switched to the U-boat branch (Rust, 2009).

He was slated to command the new type XXI boat U 3051 but the boat was not finished before the war ended (Rust, 2009).

After the war Beck became an architect in his hometown of Ravensburg in Württemberg (Rust, 2009).

At the time of this writing, Jan 2009, Beck may still be alive (Rust, 2009).
