HMS Upstart (Lt. P.C. Chapman, DSC and Bar, RN) sank the French fishing vessels Grotte de Bethlehem (49 GRT) and Torpille (46 GRT) in the Bay of Biscay.

2 Nov 1943
While on patrol off Toulon, southern France, HMS Upstart (Lt. P.C. Chapman, DSC and Bar, RN) attacks the French merchant Medjerda. All torpedoes fired missed their target.

15 Feb 1944
HMS Upstart (Lt. P.C. Chapman, DSC and Bar, RN) torpedoed and sank the German auxiliary minelayer Niedersachsen (1794 GRT, former French Guinea) off Toulon, southern France in position 43°03'N, 06°02'E.

HMS Upstart (Lt. P.C. Chapman, DSC and Bar, RN) torpedoed and sank the German merchant Tolentino (4898 GRT, former French Saumur) half a mile east of Port Vendres, southern France.

HMS Upstart (Lt. P.C. Chapman, DSC and Bar, RN) fires four torpedoes against the Italian merchant Pascoli south-east of Cape Cepet, southern France. The torpedoes however miss their target.
