Notes on class | This class represented the ultimate development of the series which had begun with the 4 Da Barbiano class, the so-called "Condottieri" (Leaders) completed in 1931. Through evolution of the design in 5 successive classes they achieved a well-balanced harmony between hitting power, staying power and speed. Proof of their success is the fact that Garibaldi remained in service, with modifications, for over 30 years. |
