Beached and shot on fire on 23 September 1940 by gunfire from the Australian heavy cruiser HMAS Australia during a British attack on Dakar.
Refloated and towed to Bizerte, Tunisia but sunk there by Allied aircraft on 7 May 1943.
Refloated again on 14 December 1943 but not worth repairing.
