Yes, but, if you towed some long cord behinde ship you can see on surface whirpools. What you go faster wirpools are larger. That is same thing if you towed sonar behinde submarine. Any type of whirpool create noise.
I know that bicose I use this long cord behinde my sailing boat when it is storm. I am using it like a brake or like a ruder. I do not know much about sonars it is hard to find on legal ways and I do not want to go in jail. But it is like you have many microphones on long cord conected parallel on amplifier.
