Thanks for the info Rob. Which brings another question to mind: since there is seemingly no major disadvantage to the scoop injection system, why wasn't this standardized on all US nuclear submarines from 1969 on? Was their a technological hitch back then?

Well, one would probably need very high security clearance to answer this definitively, but would this 'quiet' reactor system be quiter than a diesel-electric?
