Tips on browsing the site
Welcome to uboat.net!
I've compiled this page in an attempt to make your stay here a bit easier and hopefully more enjoyable. These tips will improve your browsing on almost any page on the web, not just uboat.net.
Browser
Grab the latest browser available to you. I recommend Internet Explorer 5 or later which you can download for free via this link. This one (and its Netscape relative) will enable you to browse almost any page on the Net with ease.
Why?
So many excellent pages are using Javascript, Java, Style sheets and various other technologies and tricks (much of the time badly) that you are really missing out if you cannot enjoy that.
Screen resolution and colours
You should try to put your screen into at least 800x600 at "high color" (Windows95 and NT) or better yet 1024x768. Most video cards sold in the last 2 years or so can easily do this but the PC's are normally not configured for this mode when you buy them. Same applies to Mac and Unix.
Why?
This will make more of the web visible on your screen at the same time and greatly improve your use of the Net.
Plug-ins
Real Player 5.0 is a must. It will make your browser audio and video aware. Using that one you can listen to our Commander Interviews and your local TV or radio station on the Net.
This is really just the tip of the iceberg (pun intended) but should send you off on a great start!
