Destroyer HMAS Quiberon (G 81)
2 Jul 1943
HMAS Quiberon (Lt. G.J.A. Ashley-Brown, RAN) is undocked.
Lt. Ashley-Brown had assumed temporary command of HMAS Quiberon the day before. (1)
6 Jul 1943
The Canadian merchant Jasper Park is torpedoed and sunk south-south-west of Cap Sainte Marie, Madagascar in position 32°52'S, 42°15'E by German U-boat U-177. The following day the destroyers HMAS Quiberon (Lt. G.J.A. Ashley-Brown, RAN) and HMAS Quickmatch (Lt.Cdr. R. Rhoades, DSC, RAN) together pick up 51 survivors.
The destroyers had departed Durban around 1330C/6.
Around 1425C/7, the destroyers completed the rescue operations and set course to make rendezvous with the troop transports Strathaird (British, 22281 GRT, built 1932) and Strathmore (British, 23428 GRT, built 1935) which came from Bombay.
Rendezvous was affected around 1345C/8 and course was set for Durban where they arrived around 1315C/10.
13 Jul 1943 (position 0.00, 0.00)
Around 0630B/12, HMAS Quiberon (Lt. G.J.A. Ashley-Brown, RAN) departed Durban to search for a suspected enemy submarine near Lourenço Marques (now called Maputo), Mozambique.
Around 2130B/12, HMAS Quickmatch (Lt.Cdr. R. Rhoades, DSC, RAN) also departed Durban to join HMAS Quiberon in the search for the suspected submarine.
They joined company around 1415B/13.
Around 2300B/13, flares were sighted and shortly afterwards HMAS Quickmatch sighted a lifeboat and survivors were picked up.
The destroyers returned to Durban around 1130B/15. (2)
17 Jul 1943
Around 1600C/17, the battleships HMS Resolution (Capt. J.W. Durnford, RN), Lorraine and the destroyers HMS Rotherham (Capt. F.S.W. de Winton, RN), HMS Racehorse (Cdr. A.F. Burnell-Nugent, DSC, RN), HMS Relentless (Lt.Cdr. R.A. Fell, RN), HMAS Napier (Lt.Cdr. A.H. Green, DSC, RAN) and HMAS Nepal (Cdr. F.B. Morris, RAN) departed Kilindini for Durban.
Around 0900B/18 HMAS Quiberon (Lt. G.J.A. Ashley-Brown, RAN) and HMAS Quickmatch (Lt.Cdr. R. Rhoades, DSC, RAN) departed Durban to make rendezvous with the force coming from Kilindini.
Around 1700C/20, HMAS Quiberon and HMAS Quickmatch joined. HMS Racehorce and HMAS Nepal then parted company to returned to Kilindini where they arrived around 1800C/22.
Around 0900B/24, HMS Resolution, Lorraine, HMS Rotherham, HMS Relentless, HMAS Quiberon, HMAS Quickmatch and HMAS Napier arrived at Durban. (3)

Around 1430B/24, the destroyers HMS Rotherham (Capt. F.S.W. de Winton, RN) and HMAS Quiberon (Lt. G.J.A. Ashley-Brown, RAN) departed Durban to make rendezvous with the heavy cruiser Suffren and light cruiser Duguay Trouin coming from Kilindini which they had departed around 1535C/21.
Rendezvous was affected around 1130C/25.
The four ships arrived at Durban around 0900B/26. (2)
12 Aug 1943 (position 0.00, 0.00)
Around 0600A/12, the destroyers HMAS Norman (Cdr. H.J. Buchanan DSO, RAN), HMAS Quiberon (Lt. G.J.A. Ashley-Brown, RAN), HMS Rapid (Lt.Cdr. M.W. Tomkinson, DSC and Bar, RN) and HMS Relentless (Lt.Cdr. R.A. Fell, RN) departed the Congo River estuary to make rendezvous with convoy WS 32 coming from Freetown.
Rendezvous was affected around 0900A/12.

18 Aug 1943
Around 1630B/18, HMAS Norman (Cdr. H.J. Buchanan DSO, RAN), HMAS Quiberon (Lt. G.J.A. Ashley-Brown, RAN), HMS Rapid (Lt.Cdr. M.W. Tomkinson, DSC and Bar, RN) and HMS Relentless (Lt.Cdr. R.A. Fell, RN) arrived at Capetown with convoy WS 32.
The convoy departed for Durban around 0800B/19 still escorted by these four destroyers.

Around 1330B/22, HMAS Norman (Cdr. H.J. Buchanan DSO, RAN), HMAS Quiberon (Lt. G.J.A. Ashley-Brown, RAN), HMS Rapid (Lt.Cdr. M.W. Tomkinson, DSC and Bar, RN) and HMS Relentless (Lt.Cdr. R.A. Fell, RN) arrived at Durban with convoy WS 32. (4)
24 Aug 1943 (position 0.00, 0.00)
Around 1800B/24, HMAS Quiberon (Lt. G.J.A. Ashley-Brown, RAN) departed Durban escorting the troopship Strathmore (British, 23428 GRT, built 1935) southwards.
Around 0100B/24, they reversed course to return to Durban where they arrived around 0830B/24. (4)
27 Aug 1943 (position 0.00, 0.00)
HMAS Quiberon (Lt. G.J.A. Ashley-Brown, RAN) conducted AA gunnery exercises off Durban.
later in the day, after her return to harbour Cdr. G.S. Stewart, RAN, resumed command. (4)

HMAS Quiberon (Cdr. G.S. Stewart, RAN) conducted gunnery and radar trials in Port Phillip. (5)
14 Jul 1944
HMAS Quiberon (Cdr. W.H. Harrington, DSO, RAN) conducted gunnery exercises in Port Phillip.
On completion of these exercises she set course for Fremantle. (5)
