HMS Cape town (Capt. P.H.G. James, RN) was torpedoed and damaged off Massawa, Eritrea by the Italian motor torpedo boat MAS 213 and brought into Port Sudan under tow by the Australian sloop HMAS Parramatta (Lt.Cdr. J.H. Walker, MVO, RAN) only with difficulty. She spent about a year under repair at Bombay, India.
