Around 1830A/1, HMS Ramillies (Capt. H.T. Baillie-Grohman, OBE, DSO, RN) departed Scapa Flow for Portland.

Around 2030A/2, in the North Channel she was joined by the destroyers HMS Witherington (Lt.Cdr. G.C. Fryer, RN) and HMS Verity (Lt.Cdr. A.R.M. Black, RN).

Around 0850A/2, near Milford Haven, these two destroyers were relieved by HMS Venetia (Cdr. J.W.M. Eaton, RN) and HMS Wessex (Lt.Cdr. W.A.R. Cartwright, RN). HMS Witherington and HMS Verity then entered Milford Haven arriving there around 1045A/3

HMS Ramillies arrived at Portland around 0115A/4.

Having completed escorting HMS Ramillies to Portland, HMS Venetia and HMS Wessex proceeded to Plymouth where they arrived around 0730A/4. (1)

Around 1500A/11, HMS Ramillies (Capt. H.T. Baillie-Grohman, OBE, DSO, RN) and the French destroyers Le Fortune (Cdr. C.M.L. D'Hespel) and La Railleuse (Lt.Cdr. J.E.C. Hourcade) arrived at Gibraltar from convoy escort duty. (1)

Around 1215A/5, HMS Ramillies (Capt. H.T. Baillie-Grohman, OBE, DSO, RN) departed Gibraltar to proceed to Halifax to join the North Atlantic Escort Force based there. On departure from Gibraltar she was escorted by the destroyers HMS Wishart (Cdr. E.T. Cooper, RN) and HMS Vortigern (Lt.Cdr. W.J.B. Handley, RN).

Around 2340Z/5, they turned back to Gibraltar. The deployment of HMS Ramillies to the North Atlantic Escort Force was cancelled and she was ordered to return to the Mediterranean.

They arrived back at Gibraltar around 1300Z/8. (2)

Around 1745Z/15, HMS Ramillies (Capt. H.T. Baillie-Grohman, OBE, DSO, RN) departed Gibraltar for Alexandria. She is escorted by the destroyers HMS Grafton (Cdr. M.S. Thomas, RN) and HMS Gallant (Lt.Cdr. C.P.F. Brown, RN).

Around 1620A/15, HMS Grafton and HMS Gallant parted company to join convoy Blue 4. The destroyers Kersaint (Cdr. G.R.J. Rebuffel) and HMS Duncan (Capt. G.R.B. Back, RN) then joined company.

Around 1815A/17, the Kersaint parted company to proceed to Bizerta. (2)

It had originally been intended that on her return to the Mediterranean she was to be taken in hand for a refit at Malta but this was considered unwise given the political situation with Italy. It was therefore decided to give the ship a short refit, including a docking, at Alexandria. (8)
