Career information

Captain Pardoe Matthews was born in Liverpool, on December 23rd 1908. After the war he lived with his wife Nancy (nee Williams) in Timperley, Cheshire and later in Urmston Manchester. He was with Sun Life Insurance company for many years before joining the Maritime Insurance company Marker and Eccles, in Salford, and was senior partner when he retired in 1973. He had four children, Ann, William, Stephen and Susan. He died on July 5th 1981, and was cremated at Altrincham crematorium.

HMS Northern Wave (T/Lt. W.G. Pardoe-Matthews, RNR) picks up 28 survivors from the British merchant Empire Howard that was torpedoed and sunk by German U-boat U-403 north-west of North Cape in position 73°48'N, 21°50'E.

3 Feb 1943
HMS Northern Wave (T/Lt. W.G. Pardoe-Matthews, RNR) picks up 4 survivors from the American merchant Greylock that was torpedoed and damaged by German U-boat U-255 in the Norwegian Sea in position 70°52'N, 00°21'W. The Greylock was later sunk by gunfire by one of the escorts.
