The British merchant Fanad Head is torpedoed and sunk by German U-boat U-30 about 200 nautical miles west of the Hebrides in position 56°34'N, 15°21'W. HMS Tartar (Capt. G.H. Warner, DSC, RN) later picks up the 42 survivors.
