German U-boat U-522 was sunk in the mid-Atlantic south-west of Madeira in position 31°27'N, 26°22'W, by depth charges from the British sloop HMS Totland (Lt.Cdr. L.E. Woodhouse).

23 Feb 1943
HMS Totland (Lt.Cdr. L.E. Woodhouse) picks up 65 survivors from the American tanker Esso Baton Rouge that was torpedoed and sunk by German U-boat U-202 about 400 nautical miles south of the Azores in position 31°15'N, 27°22'W.

HMS Totland also picks up 53 survivors from the British tanker Empire Norseman that was torpedoed and damaged by German U-boat U-382 about 400 nautical miles south of the Azores. The damaged Empire Norseman was hit a few minutes later by another torpedo this time fired by U-202. 1.5 hours later the drifting wreck of the Empire Norseman was sunk by a coup de gr?ce from U-558.
