Submarine USS Cuttlefish (171)
29 Jan 1942
During the attack on Pearl Harbor USS Cuttlefish (Lt.Cdr. Martin Perry Hottel) was at the Mare Island Navy Yard for an overhaul. On 29 January 1942 she left Pearl Harbor for her 1st war patrol. She was to patrol off the Bonin Islands.
24 Mar 1942
USS Cuttlefish (Lt.Cdr. M.P. Hottel) ended her 1st war patrol when she returned to base at Midway.
2 May 1942
USS Cuttlefish (Lt.Cdr. M.P. Hottel) left Midway for her 2nd war patrol. She was ordered to patrol off Saipan and the northern islands of the Marianas group. Later she was ordered to patrol some 700 nautical miles west of Midway.
15 Jun 1942
USS Cuttlefish (Lt.Cdr. M.P. Hottel) ended her 2nd war patrol at Pearl Harbor.
