USS Pintado (Lt.Cdr. B.A. Clarey) departed from Pearl Harbor for her 1st war patrol. She was ordered to patrol west of the Mariana Islands. Later her patrol area shifted to the waters south of Formosa.

USS Pintado (Lt.Cdr. B.A. Clarey) torpedoed and sank the Japanese troop transport Toho Maru (4716 GRT) and torpedoed and damaged the Japanese troop transport Kinshu Maru (5591 GRT) about 250 nautical miles northwest of Saipan in position 18°08'N, 141°14'E

6 Jun 1944 (position 16.28, 142.16)
USS Pintado (Lt.Cdr. B.A. Clarey) torpedoed and sank the Japanese army cargo ship Kashimasan Maru (2825 GRT) and the Japanese troop transport Havre Maru (5652 GRT) west-north-west of the Mariana Islands in position 16°28'N, 142°16'E.

While operation off southwest coast of Kyushu, Japan USS Pintado (Lt.Cdr. B.A. Clarey) torpedoed and sank the Japanese army cargo ship Shonan Maru (5401 GRT) in position 30°53'N, 129°45'E and torpedoed and damaged the Japanese frigate Etorofu (870 tons, offsite link) in position 30°51'N, 129°26'E.

22 Aug 1944 (position 29.52, 125.22)
USS Pintado (Lt.Cdr. B.A. Clarey) torpedoed and sank the Japanese merchant tanker Tonan Maru No.2 (19262 GRT) about 200 nautical miles south-east of Shanghai in position 29°52'N, 125°22'E.

USS Pintado (Lt.Cdr. B.A. Clarey) ended her 2nd war patrol at Pearl Harbor.

9 Oct 1944
USS Pintado (Lt.Cdr. B.A. Clarey) departed from Pearl Harbor for her 3rd war patrol. She was ordered to patrol in the South China Sea.

3 Nov 1944 (position 16.48, 117.17)
USS Pintado (Lt.Cdr. B.A. Clarey) tries to torpedo and sink the Japanese aircraft carrier Junyo (offsite link), but her torpedoes hit the Japanese destroyer Akikaze (1345 tons, offsite link) instead. The Akikaze blows up and sank in the South China Sea some 160 miles west of Cape Bolinao, Luzon, Philippines in position 16°48'N, 117°17'E.

13 Dec 1944 (position 19.30, 118.40)
USS Pintado (Lt.Cdr. B.A. Clarey) torpedoed and sank the Japanese fast transport T 12 (1500 tons) and the Japanese landing ship T 104 (887 tons) in the South China Sea in position 19°30'N, 118°40'E.

1 Jan 1945
USS Pintado (Lt.Cdr. B.A. Clarey) ended her 3rd war patrol at Brisbane, Australia.

27 Jan 1945
USS Pintado (Lt.Cdr. B.A. Clarey) departed from Brisbane for her 4th war patrol. She was ordered to patrol in the South China Sea and the Gulf of Siam.

USS Pintado (Lt.Cdr. Bernard Ambrose Clarey) is damaged by Japanese aerial bombs in the Gulf of Siam in position 07°25'N, 111°56'E. despite some damage she is able to remain on patrol.

30 Mar 1945
USS Pintado (Lt.Cdr. B.A. Clarey) ended her 4th war patrol at Fremantle, Australia. Pintado later sailed from Fremantle to Pearl Harbor.
