Career information
Capt. Edwin Anderson McDonald became Deputy Commander Task Force 43 which was the naval unit that carried out Operation Deep Freeze during the 1958 International Geophysical Year and after. He held the honorary rank of Commodore commanding all U.S. Naval vessels in Antarctic operations. His flag ship was the USS Glacier, worlds largest ice breaker.
