Lt.Cdr Henry Wallace Boud, USNR was commanding the old destroyer USS Noa (DD-343) when she was rammed by the destroyer USS Fulham (DD-474) off Palau Islands. Lt.Cdr Boud despite heroic rescue efforts to save his ship failed to prevent it sinking roughly 7 hours after the ramming without loss of life.
