While on escort duty in the Mediterranean off Alexandria, HMS Garland (Cdr. C.A.N. Chatwin, RN) is damaged by the accidental explosions of depth charges underneath her own stern. She was under repair at Malta until 16 May 1940. While under repair she was transferred to Poland on 2 May 1940.
