HrMs K XIV (Lt. T. Brunsting, RNN) arrived in her patrol area in the Makassar Strait.

HrMs K XIV (Lt. T. Brunsting, RNN) was bombed by a Japanese aicraft while running on the surface near the southern end of the Makassar Strait. Moderate damage to K XIV was inflicted. The bridge and superstructure was damaged by bomb splinters. The deck torpedo tubes were damaged as was the gun.

As fuel supply was also very low by now course was set to return to Surabaya.

With her repairs completed HrMs K IX (Lt. T. Brunsting, RNN) left Surabaya. She was ordered to stay outside the harbour and to be ready to evacuate members of the naval staff to Colombo. (1)

HrMs K IX (Lt. T. Brunsting, RNN) arrived at Sydney after stopovers at Adelaide and Melbourne. At Sydney she is to participate in A/S exercises. She is also docked for repairs and maintenance. (2)

At 0030 hours HrMs K IX (Lt. T. Brunsting, RNN) is damaged when a torpedo hit the quay abreast the Australian depotship HMAS Kuttabul. K IX was moored alongside the Kuttabul and the torpedo had passed under both ships before it hit the quay. Both ships were lifted out of the water and Kuttabul then hit the starboardside of K IX causing some damage. One of the crew of K IX was injured. HMAS Kuttabul sank as a result of the damage inflicted by the torpedo. (2)

HrMs K XII (Lt.Cdr. T. Brunsting, RNN) made a short stop at Cairns. She departed later the same day to continue her passage to Darwin.

HrMs K XII (Lt.Cdr. T. Brunsting, RNN) arrived at Darwin. En route serveral exercises were held in landing operations. These were continued while at Darwin.

HrMs K XII (Lt.Cdr. T. Brunsting, RNN) departed Darwin for her 6th war patrol. She was to land a party on the South coast of Java.

14 Sep 1942
HrMs K XII (Lt.Cdr. T. Brunsting, RNN) landed a party of three at the Radjeswesi Bay on the South coast of Java. Unfortunately in the surf the small boat of K XII sank and a rubber boat capsized. Nearly all stores were lost. The three members of the party and the two crewmembers of the K XII (that were in the small boat of K XII) reached the shore. They were all taken off the next day and the landing of the party was abandoned as nearly all their stores were now on the bottom of the bay.

In the early morning hours HrMs K XII (Lt.Cdr. T. Brunsting, RNN) is bombed by mistake by a Catalina flying boat. No damage was done to K XII.

In the evening HrMs K XII (Lt.Cdr. T. Brunsting, RNN) landed party 'Tiger II' (3 men) on the South coast of Java in the Serang Bay. The 4th member of the party remained on board the submarine and it was intended to land him the following night with the radio set, however no contact with the party could be established.

After landing party 'Tiger I' K XII returned to the Serang Bay and tried to establish contact until 6 December when course was set to return to Fremantle.
