The British merchant Fort la Maune is torpedoed and sunk by German U-boat U-188 east-north-east of Socotra Island in position 13°04'N, 56°30'E. HMS Nigella (T/Lt. C.L.L. Davies, RNVR) later picks up 56 survivors.
