HMS Lord Austin picks up 67 men from the Panamanian merchant El Capitan that was heavily damaged by German about 65 miles northeast of Iokanka, Russia by bombs German Ju88 aircraft. The wreck of the El Capitan is sunk early the next day in position 69°23'N, 40°50'E by German U-boat U-255.
