On departure from Bermuda the convoy was escorted by the light cruiser HMS Emerald (Capt. F.C. Flynn, RN) and the sloop HMS Penzance (Cdr. A.J. Wavish, RN).
HMS Penzance was to return to Bermuda after having been detached from the convoy at dawn on the 11th.
Around 0900P/15, in position 40°20'N, 46°40'W, convoy BHX 57 sighted HX 57. HMS Emerald then parted company and set course to proceed to Halifax. (3)
