Career information
Alfred Cook commanded the Medway Queen, a paddle steamer, during the Dunkirk evacuation operations. She saved 7,000 allied troops during 7 days - around 1,000 men per return trip. She became the most famous of the "little ships" of the operation and Cook was awarded the DSC for his work (The Daily Mail newspaper Thursday Feb 21 2008 article by Liz Hull).
