Career information
Pre-war race car driver
According to "The Automobile" issue December 2001, this officer was the pre-war racing driver William Gordon "Bill" Everitt (1901-1993). He drove MG, Maserati and Alfa Romeo cars with great success during the 1930s with 4th place in the 1935 Donington GP and 5th in the 1938 South African GP.
Entries in the London Gazette record his promotion to Lt-Comdr in 1940 and his retirement as Comdr in September 1945 (LG 1.3.46).
The photo is taken after his 3rd place finish in the 1936 British Empire Trophy race at Donington Park (UK).
