Notes on event

At 02.07 hours on 15 Feb 1940 the unescorted and neutral Maryland was hit by one torpedo from U-50, broke in two and sank within seven minutes. A first torpedo fired at 01.54 hours had detonated prematurely. The ship was reported missing after sending her position the last time on 9 February, only a wrecked lifeboat was later found at North Uist.
