History | Completed April 1918 as British fleet oiler War Prophet for the Shipping Controller, managed by Anglo Saxon Petroleum Co, London. 1919 sold to Italy, converted to dry cargo ship and renamed Vallarsa for Lloyd Mediterraneo Soc Italiana di Nav, Genoa. 1935 sold to Ditta Giovanni Gavarone fu Giovanni, Genoa and renamed Mirella. | ||
Notes on event | At 03.15 hours on 1 March 1940 the Mirella was hit in the bow by one torpedo from U-20, but did not sink. The U-boat waited submerged during the daytime, returned to the abandoned ship in the evening and sunk her at 21.14 hours by a coup de grâce. The wreck in position 52°26´09N/02°05´02E was later dispersed. | ||
