Notes on event | At 14.59 hours on 10 Nov 1944 the Godafoss (Master Sigurður Gíslason) from the storm scattered convoy UR-142 was hit by one LUT torpedo from U-300 off Reykjanes and sank within seven minutes. The ship had stopped against orders to rescue survivors from the burning Shirvan when torpedoed. 14 crew members, one convoy signalman and ten passengers, among them a family of five (two young doctors returning from Harvard and their 3 children) were lost. | ||
