Personal information
George Rowland Armstrong had joined the Cheyenne in October 1937 and it was his tenth voyage as first engineer when she was sunk. He survived this sinking and sailed on other tankers of the Esso fleet throughout the war without being sunk again. In November 1939 he joined Schuylkill for seven voyages until April 1941 and then sailed one voyage on Comanchee in December 1941.
